Our Story

Sahuarita First Assembly began its journey on May 10,1981. In the sewing room of Social Center West in Green Valley with eleven local attendees from Tucson AZ.  Pastor David and Joan Stowell felt a calling to start a Pentecostal work in the Green Valley. The work started with the support from the presbytery board of the Assemblies of God of the Arizona District and Victory Assembly of God in Tucson AZ. Soon after meeting in the Social Center, the new church temporarily moved to sister Graetz’ house on Calle Ensayador and then to two mobile homes on 1100 W. Calle Privada. The congregation began to build the building there and it filled to capacity in the mid 1990s.  Shortly after the congregation purchased 15 acres at 18180 S. La Cañada Drive to begin building a new center to accommodate the growing number of worshipers in the area. The congregation worked continuously for six years on the project and had their first service at their new location on January 13, 2002. Pastor David and Joan Stowell were faithful to carry the call of God at Sahuarita First Assembly of God for 44 full years, and retired in September of 2025. Upon prompting from God, along with the church the mantle was transferred to Pastor David and Elizabeth Lopez to continue the mission and vision of God for Sahuarita First Assembly of God

As we press forward in 2026 and beyond, preparing for eternity with God, we look forward to welcoming you into our church.  We seek to make disciples for Jesus, by living a life of worship to God, building strong marriages, and healthy family relationships
